730 Monument, Ishigaki, Okinawa

During our extended spring break, the family headed south to Club Med at Ishigaki, Okinawa.  It was a great get away, especially with all the stress due to the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisiss.

Did you know that after World War II the traffic in Okinawa drove on the right side of the road until 30 July 1978?  There is even a monument in downtown Ishigaki dedicated to the day that the traffic changed sides.  It's flanked by several large Shisa (lions).
