Magnolia Denudata on a fine Spring Day in Yoyogi Koen

Several years ago (back in 2011) I previously posted about magnolia kobus spotted in Sagamihara in Kanagawa, and Roppongi and Azabu Juban in Tokyo. On this fine first Sunday after the vernal equinox, I spotted this majestic magnolia denudata in full flower being appreciated by several onlookers in Yoyogi Koen. Personally, I couldn't tell the difference between the two varieties, but luckily for me the park administrators labeled have this tree.

The sign has the appearance of a medieval torture device, but the coiled wire will slowly unwind as the tree grows.

Even more Magnolia!!!

I've been flower crazy lately, but rather than posting the expected shots of sakura in April, I'm posting more Magnolia Kobus!!!

This shot was taken in Sagamihara.

More Magnolia Kobus...

In addition to the cherry blossoms around Roppongi Hills, there were quite a few magnolia trees in bloom.  These large flowers are very pretty, but according to my wife, the fallen petals can make the sidewalk slippery.  So be careful!

Here's a close-up of a blossom.

Magnolia kobus

I saw some Magnolia Kobus in bloom in Azabujuban. While the kids were playing on the swings, I tried to get a few good shots.
